The Community Based Research Centre in Vancouver, Canada is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to using research to guide community action on health and social issues. We support the research and knowledge development needs of communities and community organizations locally, nationally and internationally. We conduct research and translate findings into educational initiatives and messages. We provide capacity building and education on community based research. The Research Ethics Board exists to provide ethical guidance and consultation to community-based researchers. Our special focus is Gay Men’s Health with initiatives on HIV, sexual health promotion, and policy development.

HIV Community Based Research Network: Our community based research site contains Canada’s only on line Library of HIV community based research. We act as a clearinghouse for studies, tools, links and resources in CBR and HIV. Post your research. Join the website to get access to others doing community research.
The Sex Now Survey is a provincial research project about gay men’s sexual health. We work collaboratively with community organizations throughout BC to collect data, plan initiatives and develop policy.
Totally Outright is a sexual health leadership program for young gay men, ages 18 to 26. Based on HIV prevention needs identified in the Sex Now survey, the course provides participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to become leaders in their own communities.
The Summit is a provincial gathering to discuss and develop a strategy for addressing gay men’s health issues in British Columbia. The first Summit was held in December 2005 brining together those who work and volunteer in gay men’s health.
Research Ethics Board provides ethical review to those doing community research.
